Religious practices
Decrease of the religious practice
The religious practice within the Church of Sweden is that only a few members participate regularly in church services. Only about 3 per cent of the members participate in the normal Sunday service. On a yearly basis, though, about 75 per cent of the church members have participated in a church service during the year. The total number of people, attending a church service, is slowly decreasing (as is the number of members). Every year about 20 million visits in the church services are made by the 7 million members.
The score of participants in the services in other churches and denominations is probably much higher. But the participation in some of the other churches – the classical Swedish free churches – is decreasing as well. Only emerging churches and denominations seem to increase their participation in services.
