- Religious situation: Russia is a country of Orthodox tradition. According to the Atlas of religion and nationality survey 2012, around 75% of respondents are Orthodox but only 14% of the Russian population have a regular practice. Islam is the traditional religion of several ethnic minorities of Russia. 6.5% of the Russian population are Muslim but the number of practicing Muslims does not exceed 42%. Concerning other religions and beliefs, 25% of respondents are "believers without religion" and 13% atheists. Each of Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, and Jewish religion represents less than 1%.
