Sources of data
Data on religious affiliation is collected in the Census of Population. This is the most comprehensive source of data especially for numerically small groups other than the Catholics. The most recent published data on religious affiliation are from the 2011 Census of Population, Profile 7.
For more information than that which is provided here consult the website of the Central Statistics Office.
Data on religious beliefs is mainly obtained from the European Social Survey (ESS) and the International Social Survey Program (ISSP). Much of this data for Catholics is published and updated on the research section of the website of Catholic Bishops conference.
