Research

The Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff University carries out research in all areas of law and religion. The nationwide Law and Religion Scholars Network (LARSN) was set up by Cardiff’s Centre for Law and Religion in 2008 to bring together academics who were interested in how law and religion interact.

Other research groups focusing on religion and law are:

The University of Bristol: Centre for the Study of Law and Religion

The Religion and Society Research programme is a large cluster of research projects funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Economic and Social Research Council and directed by Professor Linda Woodhead at Lancaster University.

The British Sociological Association’s Sociology of Religion Study group is a network of British sociologists and researching religion. Founded in 1975, this is one of the largest study groups within the British Sociological Association

Other universities with a strong research profile within the sociology of religion include the University of Aberdeen, University of Manchester, University of Oxford, University of Warwick.

INFORM The information network on Religious Movements, an independent charity based at London School of Economics and Political Science, founded by Eileen Barker for unbiased research and information on new religious movements.

Theos is a ‘public theology thinktank’ which sponsors surveys, commissions and produces reports, and hosts events.
