  • Area : 407 311 km² land area of 528,447 km² in total (National Encyclopedia 2014).
  • Population : 9 845 155 (National Statistics, 30 November 2015). The population is mostly urban and only 15% of the population live in the countryside, outside localities.
  • Capital : Stockholm.
  • Largest cities and number of inhabitants : Stockholm 911 989, Göteborg 541 145, Malmö 318 107, Uppsala 207 362 (National Statistics, December 2014).
  • Regions : The Swedish public state administration is divided into 21 regions.
  • Languages : Swedish and five official national minority languages ; Sami, Finnish, Meänkieli (the Finnish of the Torneå Valley), Romani and Yiddish.

65% of the population (6,3 million) are members of the Church of Sweden (evangelical-lutheran) (Church of Sweden statistics 2014) and 8% (750 000) belong to minority Christian denominations and other religions (National Commission for State Grants to Religious Communities).
